More than one deer has come down from primitive weapons.

For his Indian-style flat bow Shannon Block makes himself, he prefers to use a wooden arrow with an arrowhead tip.

When that sharpened, hand-worked stone chipped, he decided to learn how to mend it and make his own.

“This is my first flint-knapping venture,” Block said. “But I’ve been building bows for about 20 years.”

Block attended a Knap-In with the River Hills Flintknappers this weekend in rural Linn.

The group, which has tripled in size in the last year, meets every two months at a member’s home in the Mid-Missouri area.
