Dear Editor:
We returned to Jefferson City in 2009 after graduating from Truman State University and living in Columbia for several years. When the Transformation discussion first began, we were eager to participate. As young professionals, we enjoy the friends we have here and the opportunities which have been presented to us but realize that Jefferson City has even more potential. We were excited to join other community members in discussing what it would take to make Jefferson City realize that potential.
We have spent countless hours talking through the ideas with each other, with our friends, with our families, with members of our church and with other groups in which we are involved. When we found out we were expecting late last year, we began contemplating what life for our son might be like in Jefferson City and what kind of opportunities he would find (or not find) here.
While we feel we have been blessed to have been products of this great community, we realize that there are things we must change to make Jefferson City a more attractive place for people of all kinds -- single and married, people with or without kids, people in our generation and the next.
It is time that we send a message to our youth and to people outside of our community, that Jefferson City is a place where people care enough to invest in their own community with an eye toward the future and Jefferson City is a place that is dedicated to teaching and training the next generation of young professionals and leaders.
We believe Transform Jefferson City is a significant step in the right direction.
