Your Opinion: We must transform with changing times

Dear Editor:

I remember stories of my grandfather driving a team of mules on the frozen Missouri River to cross and the one bridge that I rode and drove over growing up. And it wasn't that many years ago that I took my two young children to the opening of our second bridge crossing the Missouri River.

On Feb. 7 we have a real chance to reinvigorate our community, by voting yes to the half-cent sales tax that will fund projects which will create more residential and business opportunities in Jefferson City. The attitudes of many show a can-do spirit will turn to a real will-do spirit with a positive vote by you.

We're not a one-town bridge town anymore just as we are not the dormant sleepy government city some people think we are.

I have volunteered in many organizations and charities over the years to give back something to my home town. As a member of Zonta Club of Jefferson City if we cannot invest our time in a project, then we support the project with our dollars. I think this is exactly what our citizens should do - if you don't give your time to make your community a better place then give your dollars to support by voting yes on the half-cent sales tax. Let's practice the three T's - keeping Talent, showing Tolerance and Transform in Jefferson City.
