Jefferson City looks at new after-hours ordinance
Friday, February 3, 2012
The city is considering new ways to regulate businesses that operate “after hours.”
At the Jefferson City Public Safety Committee meeting Thursday, Drew Hilpert, interim city counselor, presented the proposed ordinance that would apply to businesses open between 1 and 4 a.m.
Second Ward Councilman Rich Koon said Club Motivation on Industrial Drive, what used to be College Complex, has been one source of problems for the city in the past.

How about DEREGULATING businesses so they can do well, expand, and make this town better?
Instead of punishing all businesses because of this one, how about the cops go in and clean up the riff-raff that hangs out there, or closing down this ONE BUSINESS?
Jefferson City will never grow and prosper with all these restrictions on private business.

I have to agree with you on this one. this town needs less of telling people how to operate

So the city is finally looking at new ways to regulate businesses that operate “after hours.” Do they really think an ordinance is going to stop the violence? Why didn’t they think about it last March after Cortez Ray Bellamy, was fatally shot in the head? Police believed at that time that the shooting stemmed from an altercation that occurred at the College Complex and possibly another local nightspot. Or maybe the city leaders would like the troublemakers to move back across the river to the 63 Sports Complex. Where, according to the police, early morning parties have resulted in numerous crimes including several shootings. Honest people do not need another “law” and those that have been involved are not going to stop simply because the City of Jefferson has an ordinance on the books.
