City to begin drafting annexation plan

The Jefferson City Council is expected to approve a declaration of intent Monday to annex an area on the western side of the city.

In December, the City Council’s annexation committee accepted a plan by city staff to move forward on an annexation proposal on the western side of the city. Staff began working to bring to the full council a plan of intent involving an area of 158.2 acres in the Apache Flats area.

On Monday, the council will be presented with a resolution declaring the city’s intent to annex the area and directing city staff to prepare a formal plan of intent.

Why just this little area? Time to annex Rainbow Drive, Henwick Lane, etc. from US. 50 north to the Missouri river to get all those subdivisions in Scotts Station Road, and along Hwy 179.

The city wants to grow, but they are so conservative on annexation, but so liberal on taxing and spending.

Voluntary annexation is the best way.

If annexation was voluntary, JC city limits would be old town.

The reason why they don't go after a large area to annex at one time is because they don't want anybody to actually put up a fight. They know they need 3/4 of a majority city over county to win the annex and if they tried for a bigger area they would have a harder time getting it. As usual the City doesn't care about what the people want. Nobody has talked to the county residents about annexxing- they just do it so they can get more money.
