Firefighters rescue man who slipped into river

MOSCOW MILLS, Mo. (AP) - Firefighters in eastern Missouri's Lincoln County are credited with rescuing a man who fell into a near-freezing river.

The man's name was not released. The man tried to sit down at the top of a river bank along the Cuivre River in Moscow Mills on Tuesday afternoon when he slipped and fell about 25 feet, landing in the water.

A family member found him sometime later. When rescuers with the Lincoln County Fire Protection District arrived, he was waist-deep in the frigid water.

Firefighters threw a life jacket to the man, then used ropes to descend the steep bank and pull him to safety.

The man was taken to a hospital for evaluation, but did not appear to be seriously injured.
