Judge: No cameras for Bustamante sentencing

When Alyssa Bustamante returns to court next week for the scheduled two-day sentencing hearing, no one will be able to take her picture in the courtroom or record audio of any of the testimony about her life, her past, her health or her future care.

As with her plea hearing last month, Cole County Presiding Circuit Judge Patricia Joyce again has banned reporters and visitors from having or using electronic devices.

In addition, she said, “Nor shall any cell phones, smart phones, computers, laptops, tablets, or any other electronic devices capable of recording, photographing or video-recording be allowed inside the courtroom.”

No decision had been made Tuesday about the general public’s access to the hearings, which begins at 9 a.m. Monday.
