Couple makes cycling occupation
Monday, December 31, 2012
In days gone by, bicycle shops tended to be repair garages first and retail boutiques second.
“Years ago, if you had a bicycle store, you would build the wheels or even construct a frame,” said Mark Allchorn, co-owner of the Hartsburg Cycle Depot.
Owners of the old-time bike shops he knew as a kid were quintessentially lifelong mechanics, he said.
Today, Allchorn and his wife, Pam, have built a business that is much more like the repair shops of yore. The amount of space allocated to their workshop is equivalent to the square footage of their showroom.
