Cause of chemical leak at St. Louis water plant investigated

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Authorities in west St. Louis County are trying to determine what caused a chemical leak at a water plant that forced workers to be evacuated and nearby roads to close.

Hazardous materials crews and firefighters were called around 11 p.m. Sunday to the Missouri American Water Plant for a report of a chlorine leak. One of the eight one-ton tanks at the facility was leaking.

Systems in place contained the leak, but emergency crews briefly closed Hog Hollow Road and other nearby streets as the leak was contained.

No one was hurt.
