Candidate withdraws to save cost of primary

Would be happy with either 3rd Ward candidate as council representative

Councilman Bryan Pope is ready to let someone new represent the 3rd Ward, eight years after he first ran for Jefferson City Council.

Pope originally refiled for his seat Nov. 30, but withdrew his name from the ballot on the last day of filing after two other candidates filed for the same seat. Pope said he was happy to see interest in the municipal positions, but knew three candidates would cause a primary to be held before the general election, an extra expense for the city.
