Louisville Male rolls past Helias

The tone was set in the first possession of Helias’ game against Louisville (Ky.) Male on Saturday. And it didn’t have a good ring for Helias.

The Bulldogs grabbed four offensive rebounds in the opening few seconds, eventually leading to a basket. It was that way all night as Helias was pushed around by a quicker, bigger team in a 73-40 loss during the third-place game of the Machens Great 8 Classic at Fleming Fieldhouse.

“That set the tone for them,” Helias coach Josh Buffington said. “The intensity of the basketball game was in their favor the entire night. That can’t be the case for us and we’re going to come up on the short end more times than not.”

It was that way for most of the night as Male used its quickness to force Helias out of its game, out-rebounding the Crusaders 30-13 and forcing ....
