Lausanne moves to title game

A fast-paced affair produced possibly the best game of Day 2 of the Joe Machens Great 8 Classic.

Lausanne Collegiate of Memphis, Tenn. outlasted Louisville (Ky.) Male 69-61 on Friday night in a semifinal matchup at Fleming Fieldhouse.

In a game that saw 126 shots, 25 turnovers, nine lead changes and seven ties, it was the Lynx (8-1) who advanced to the final to take on St. Francis DeSales of Columbus, Ohio at 8 p.m. today.

Louisville Male held a 16-15 advantage after the first quarter before Lausanne went ahead 31-27 at halftime.

Louisville Male had led 27-20 before Lausanne finished the half on an 11-0 run.

The Lynx gained a 49-48 edge heading into the final stanza. They opened a 56-48 lead two minutes into the last period when Quentin Sawyer nailed a 3-pointer.

The Bulldogs cut the deficit to 61-59 on a three-point play from Josh Stoner with 2:30 remaining.

Lausanne, ahead 63-61 with 1:27 left, scored the final six points thanks to layups off Louisville Male turnovers.

Cameron Payne, a Murray State signee, scored 17 of his game-high 25 points in the second half for the winners. Denio Chirindja joined him in double figures with 18. He also added 12 rebounds.

Stoner tallied 22 points to pace the Bulldogs, while D.J. Lambert added 10.

Louisville Male (8-4) will play Helias in the third-place game today at 6:30 p.m.
