Benton tops Lady Crusaders

Once the St. Joseph Benton Lady Cardinals got the lead, they knew what to do with it.

The Lady Cardinals hit four 3-pointers in the final three minutes of the third quarter to turn a four-point advantage into double digits against the Helias Lady Crusaders in Friday night’s semifinal in the State Farm Holiday Hoops Invitational at Rackers Fieldhouse.

Up 36-25 with one quarter to go, It was time to play keep-away.

“Once they got the lead, they started running a lot of clock,” Helias head coach Doug Light said after the Lady Crusaders dropped a 48-36 decision to the Lady Cardinals. “They were doing a good job of it and we didn’t really have an answer for it because they were hitting their free throws."
