Judge orders Mo. town to license adult store

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A federal judge has ordered a Missouri town to grant a business license and stop other efforts aimed at keeping an adult-themed store from operating.

Pevely is a town of 5,500 residents about 35 miles south of St. Louis. For two years the city has denied a business license, building permit, even use of water and sewer to Pure Pleasure Boutique, but the store opened anyway.

The Florida owners of the store filed suit in January 2011. In a ruling issued Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Henry Edward Autry said the city cannot enact an ordinance motivated by the desire to suppress First Amendment rights.

City Administrator Jason Eisenbeis called the ruling disappointing and says officials will meet soon to discuss how to proceed.

Yet another town trying to dictate what rights in the constitution they want to use and what they want to throw out. FIRST AMENDMENT.

Some people feel the same way about the way the federal government protects the warped interpretation of the second amendment. Too bad we can't pick and choose what we want to obey for laws

The government and the politicians need to quit worrying about the 2nd Amendment and start doing something about the CRIMINALS. The "catch and release" programs are not working well to deter crime. When the cops catch 'em and bring 'em in, the courts need to stop the practice of allowing the criminals to plead to lesser charges. When they are convicted, the charges need to be much more severe. When they are placed in custody, the time should be uncomfortable, back-breaking work, hard labor, a terrifying experience.

Do these things and the recividism rate might drop considerably, and the deterral effect will be huge. Watch crime rates drop like a rock.

Punish the criminals, not the innocents.

Hmm. Never took issue with adult toy shops, or strip clubs. For that matter I wouldn't notice if they closed Bed Bath & Beyond or Hobby Lobby. Why? I don't shop there, don't work at either, nor know anyone that does. Know a few looking for work, however.

The city of Pevely has way better things to spend its money upon. I wonder what their legal bills look like over this non-issue?
