Officials announce Mo. inaugural schedule
Thursday, December 27, 2012
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — State offices in the Missouri Capitol’s home of Cole County will be closed Jan. 14 for the inauguration of statewide elected officials.
The festivities for Gov. Jay Nixon and first lady Georganne (jorj-an) Nixon will start with a service at a Jefferson City church. That will be followed by the traditional parade ending at the state Capitol.
The swearing-in ceremony for five statewide officials is scheduled to start at 11:15 a.m. Missouri law states that a governor’s four-year term starts at noon on the second Monday in January.
The Nixons also plan a reception at the Governor’s Mansion and a barbecue showcase at a Jefferson City hotel. Inauguration Day will wrap up with a ball in the Capitol.
Missourians can obtain information about the inauguration by visiting mo.gov/inauguration.

So they took away black Friday last year but give the day off to celebrate them. Nothing narcissistic about that.

State workers have always been off on Inauguration Day, nothing new.

As long as you are a state worker in Cole County you are off all other state employees have to work.

jeffcitygirl...NOT ALL State employees have always gotten this day off. In the past, it has always just been State employees who work in the downtown vicinity (Truman Building, Jefferson Building, MODOT, Governor Building) due to traffic and parking issues. So dont hate ALL State Employees for thinking they always get this day off, because they dont!!

And they specifically exempted tele-work employees. I'm surprised they didn't limit it to the downtown employees.

Surprised they didn't just trade out for the MLK holiday since it is so close.

Nixon and Obama are already in office. Why go to the expense of inaugurating them or any incumbent who is re-elected? Guess it could be a pretty big ego-trip for some and is legislated. And leave state employees alone - think road safety, clean drinking water, child protection, legal issues, etc. The list is long and I am grateful for all they do. No group is perfect, but most do good work.
