Chamois slips past New Bloomfield

It was closer than expected. That may not be much of a shock, though, considering Chamois is the No. 6 team in the state for Class 1. The Lady Pirates are going to get everybody's best game, which is exactly what New Bloomfield had to offer.

And while it was close for a half, Chamois used a 17-4 third quarter to gain some separation and hold on for a 40-28 victory Saturday afternoon in the Missouri National Guard Shootout at Fleming Fieldhouse.

"No doubt (it was closer than expected)," Chamois coach Marty Gerloff said. "With the past we've had, we get everybody's best game. We've got a target on our backs. We got a win out of it. It was sloppy, but we'll take it."

Said New Bloomfield coach Brett Craighead: "I was hoping (the score) would be ....
