Nixon urges moment of silence for Conn. victims

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon is urging Missourians to pause today to remember the victims of the school massacre in Newtown, Conn.

Nixon and governors across the country are calling for people to observe a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. in local time zones. That's the hour of the shooting last Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The gunman killed 20 first-graders and six adults before committing suicide. He also killed his mother at their home.

Nixon said in a news release that the "moment of silence across the country represents the sorrow deeply felt by our nation."
