A shopper heads to the food court entrance on the south side of the Capital Mall on Monday afternoon.

Mike Farmer, a local businessman and developer, has bought the Capital Mall, according to papers filed Wednesday with Cole County.

The News Tribune reported the sale of the mall earlier this week, but the buyer had not been named.

Farmer couldn’t be reached for comment Wednesday, and his development company, F&F Development, has not returned calls in recent days.

More details in Thursday’s News Tribune.

Odd, just a couple days ago this same newspaper said "and it now is being managed by a Chicago-based property management group". How is that a LOCAL BUSINESSMAN. Either way that mall sucks and it's more worth mine or anyone's time to go to Columbia. I hope this Chicago based Local Businessman remodel's the whole building. I doubt though that he's seen the place since he's a local based Chicago businessman.

The management company is not the owner. Our initial report was that the mall is being managed by a Chicago-based property management group, that General Growth Properties confirmed they no longer owned the mall, and it went on to say the new buyer had not been publicly revealed yet. That's what we knew at the time. This update reveals the buyer as Mr. Farmer. Hope that clears up any confusion. --Rick Brown, online editor, News Tribune

Wow, I didn't know that place was still there. Do people still shop there and if they do, what do they buy?

Not sure what a concrete guy knows more than General Growth Properties about runing a shopping mall. Maybe he got it real cheap, or maybe he is going to tear it down and put in a rock quarry or a cement plant?

Mike Farmer owns at least nine locations of Midwest Block & Brick, various concrete companies, sand plants, gravel plants, quarries, and who knows what else. He was a quarterback at Mizzou circa 1970 and also played for the Packers. Don't underestimate what he can do with a shopping mall.

What a bunch of Stupid comments..............I would say local ownership of the Mall would be great!...GGP has done Nothing with the Mall for the last 15 years......why don't we wait to see what they have in store??!!

I moved to the Lake area and actually miss the mall. We don't have a Dillard's here and the closest Hallmark would be in Lebanon or JC.

If anyone could turn the mall around, it would be these folks. Hoping for the best. Good luck !
