Helias girls game called off

The Helias-St. James girls basketball junior varsity and varsity games scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Rackers Fieldhouse were called off due to the deaths of a pair of St. James students.

The students, both senior girls who were not members of the basketball team, were killed in a one-vehicle accident early Saturday morning on I-44.

Helias girls basketball coach and athletic director Doug Light said he received a call a few hours after the accident telling him St. James did not want to play Saturday.

“I understood completely,” Light said.

Light said there have been no discussions about rescheduling the game.
