Your Opinion: Response #1 to Capitol Caroling complaint

Dear Editor:

In response to Jessica Lako’s letter about the religious music at the Capitol Caroling, I would just like to say that Christians have lost too many rights already.

As long as the majority of the tax payers are Christians, then we should have the right to have our dollars used for this 75 year old tradition. December 25th is a celebration of Christmas — not a “holiday” or “season.”

We sing those songs in celebration of Christmas.

Ms. Lako, I don’t begrudge you the right to have your own beliefs. Nor do I force you, or anyone, to attend the Capitol Caroling. But as long as I’m a taxpayer, too, then I should have the right to hear our traditional, religious music.

Issue-oriented letters to the editor in response to this or about other local topics are welcome. All letters should be limited to 400 words. The author's name must appear with the letter, and the name, address and phone number provided for verification. Letters that cannot be verified by telephone will not be published. Send letters for publication to editor@newstribune.com
