Chestnut Street proposal to face council

The Jefferson City Council is expected to take up a proposal to vacate Chestnut Street to Lincoln University on Monday, but there is no indication yet as to whether the council will approve the plan.

The issue was placed on the council's informal calendar at the Nov. 5 City Council meeting after several residents voiced concerns about the possible impact on traffic in the neighborhood. Under the current proposal as presented Nov. 5, Chestnut would be closed between East Atchison and East Dunklin streets, with electronic gates put in to be monitored by cameras so emergency vehicles can get access to the road.
