Dear Editor:
In response to Harold H. Horstmann's letter of Dec. 4, allow me to point out his choice of phrases are exactly what led him into the situation he now finds himself in, and so vociferously laments.
Apparently, the point of his screed is to bemoan the fate of the country due to a resurgence of "leftist liberals" who "control our culture."
In other words, his guy lost. He states that he feels "somewhat like the Jews may have felt after the German election in 1933."
This is the single-most tone-deaf, insensitive and callous line I believe I've ever read in a newspaper.
Let me get this right ... Governor Romney lost. Todd Akin lost. Somehow this evokes feelings similar to the victims of industrialized murder? As a Jew, I am convinced Mr. Horstmann does not have a clue how Jews felt in 1933.
Republicans lost the last election, in part due to their own ill-advised, ill-conceived and ill-timed comments regarding the "49 percent" and a woman's evidently innate ability to control conception.
Horstmann perpetuates the tradition. The ideas are stale; the language is dead. While Mr. Horstmann prays to his God for help in the next revolution, I would advise him to ask for a little wisdom and perspective.
