The meeting is scheduled from 7-9 p.m. in the Jefferson City High School cafeteria. The public is invited.

On Dec. 3, board President Joy Sweeney signed separate contracts to sell portions of the current high school campus at 609 Union St. to Linn State Technical College and Lincoln University, although those contracts are contingent on whether voters ultimately approve funding for a new high school.

A few months ago, the board purchased a 118-acre property east of Missouri 179 and north of Mission Drive that it hopes to use as the site of a new state-of-the-art high school.

This is good news. Anybody plan on attending? I hope they tape it and make it available for people to watch when they want to, like they do the city council meetings. That way people who can't be at the meeting Monday can still get the information.

Something I learned from previous initiatives in Jefferson City is that people are very busy and don't always want to go to meetings, but they are interested. The easier it is for them to get to the information (like on the internet), the more likely they will do the research and get informed.

Is this meeting to discuss optionS, or is it an informational meeting to sell the district's proposed plan? Since the district has already purchased land, and signed an agreement to sell the current campus, it is my conclusion the district will only give the perception they are listening to the communtiy. When Nashville began the process to implement academies into their schools it began in 2006 and was just implemented in the 2012-13 school year. JCPS has not educated their constituents on how the academy methodology will be implemented. Where is the information that the Academic Planning committee has put together on how the academy methodology will be implemented? As we all know the devil is in the details. The district seems to be taking a que from our federal government and is asking us to approve the bond issue and then we will tell you how this is going to work?

It doesn't matter if they have 20 meetings to discuss options, the school board will do what they want and they will not give a damn about what the people of Jefferson City want, that is just how they work.

Here is a concept video of the high school Joplin is planning to build:

2200 students, and they want the high school to "feel big" so students don't feel crammed in.

rollnthndr - from what I understand, it's being billed as a 'town hall' meeting to 'educate and discuss'. We won't know until sometime afterward how much input the school boards takes from the public on this issue.

I look forward to the exchange of information and ideas.

Older voters wish the board would meet at a convenient time during the day so they could attend. Many older voters don't like to drive at night, and the city busses don't run after 5:30 in this hick town.
