Off-duty policeman injured in wreck, passenger dies later

Passenger in his car dies from her injuries

An off-duty New Bloomfield policeman was critically injured in a two-vehicle accident Thursday night in Columbia.

And a passenger in his vehicle — Michelle Morrow, 24, Columbia — died Friday afternoon from her injuries.

The New Bloomfield Police Department said Friday that Michael Tufts, 23, Columbia, was being treated at University Hospital in Columbia.

Columbia Police Department reports show Tufts’ truck was struck by a car driven by Spencer Gordon, 20, Columbia, which crossed the center line of Providence Road, near Research Park Drive, just before midnight.

Both vehicles spun out of control.
