New warning sirens less intrusive in test mode
Friday, December 7, 2012
Jefferson City residents may have noticed that new emergency warning sirens, with new attention tones, are now being used.
Instead of the old droning tones, a voice telling citizens “This is only a test” comes over along with a series of chimes.
The first sirens to have this capability were tested last month and, according to Cole County/Jefferson City Emergency Management Director Bill Farr, more came on line Thursday afternoon, when the monthly test occurred.

The sirens were being used this week? I certainly didn't hear anything or any voice. Maybe the new sirens aren't online in my area.

Didn't hear 'em. Hope somebody didn't hit the mute button. Migh need the sirens on the 21st.

I heard them when I got off of work, but couldn't make out what was being said. To me it sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher!
