ST. LOUIS (AP) - American Airlines will keep four gates at Lambert Airport in St. Louis, but at less cost.
Lambert officials said Wednesday that an agreement expected to be filed next month with a U.S. Bankruptcy Court allows American to shed $2.3 million a year in payments to the airport. American's parent company, AMR Corp., filed for bankruptcy protection in November 2011.
American ranks second in flights at Lambert, behind only Southwest Airlines. American has 30 departures to six destinations each day.
Though the agreement calls for American to occupy four gates in the C Concourse through the end of its lease in June 2016, the airline's total leased space at the airport will shrink to about 39,000 square feet from about 66,000 square feet.
