Wreaths for Heroes ready for third year
Sunday, December 2, 2012
Six years ago a handful of people, mostly veterans and elected officials, hung seven wreaths at the Jefferson City National Cemetery in honor of each military branch plus prisoners or war and missing-in-action service members for the holidays.
On Saturday, hundreds of volunteers, many grateful residents, likely will fill the hallowed ground inside the limestone walls to hang an artificial wreath on each of the 1,588 markers.
The wreaths will arrive at 9 a.m. at the cemetery on East McCarty Street with a ceremony immediately following. Call (573) 635-5651 for more information.
