Cole County Commission reduces tax levy
Thursday, August 30, 2012
For the fourth year in a row, the Cole County Commission has reduced the property tax levy for the county general fund.
No one spoke at a public hearing Wednesday on the proposed 2012 rates for the general revenue and road and bridge funds, which were then passed unanimously.
The rate for the general revenue fund is 10.96 cents for each $100 of assessed property value. The 2011 rate was 11.51 cents.

Thank you, Commissioners for working to provide good services to residents while being mindful of the devestating effects the economy has had on taxpayers the last four years. You do a good job keeping the county roads in decent shape, and the amenities like the county park are great assets for us. Other than an expensive (but very much needed) new jail located uptown on expensive real estate, you have been very frugal with our tax dollars, spending most of them on quality essential services.
However, since you stuck your nose in the Renn's Lake, mess and made a bad situation much worse, we do now owe those residents a restored lake.
