Local man charged in assault, fire

A Jefferson City man has been charged in connection with an assault Friday afternoon and setting fire at a property in Cole County.

As of Monday afternoon, Ronald Smith, 44, of 2436 St. Louis Road, was being held in the Cole County Jail on $100,000 bond on charges of knowingly burning and domestic assault.

A Cole County Sheriff’s Department probable cause statement shows deputies were called to a residence on Old Bass Road.

A female, whom Smith was involved in a relationship with, called authorities to say Smith forcibly entered the residence by kicking in the front door.
