Navy veteran shares lessons learned serving aboard submarines

Upon his graduation from high school, local resident Steve Sampson was uncertain as to what the future held for him, or what vocation he should consider pursuing.
But after a short period working odd jobs that provided little satisfaction, Sampson enlisted in the Navy — leading to an eight-year commitment offering a lifetime of benefit.
“I wanted an education and wasn’t excited about working in a factory my entire life,” said Sampson, 68, of Jefferson City.
