Turn heads at the gym

Style doesn't have to end at health club doors

Making a fashion statement might not be a woman's first priority when she goes to the gym. But today's selection of activewear allows women to look their best while working on their fitness goals.

"I think what you wear to work out is important," said Ashley Swoboda, manager and certified personal trainer at Anytime Fitness in Jefferson City. "When you look good and feel good at the gym, you will do better. If you are insecure or self-conscious, it will keep you from focusing on your workout."

Swoboda, who also competes in figure competitions, hasn't always made fashion a focus during her workouts.

Women have more choices than ever when it comes to creating a stylish appearance that is suited for exercise. Many athletic brands have lines targeted to women with an abundance of options in tank tops, capris, shorts, T-shirts and shoes.
