Mo. man accused of hosing down child as punishment

FORISTELL, Mo. (AP) — An eastern Missouri man is facing felony child abuse charges for using a hose to spray his 6-year-old stepson for 30 minutes because the boy didn’t do his chores.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/R7VOWV ) reports that 40-year-old Joseph Paul Knyff of Foristell is charged in the incident that allegedly happened in July. He is jailed on $15,000 cash-only bond and does not yet have a listed attorney.

Knyff told police he sprayed the boy for failing to pick up grass clippings in the yard. The child’s mother said she turned off the hose after 20 minutes, but her husband turned it back on.

Police said that even though it was hot outside, the boy was shivering from the cold water when they arrived.

Guess he should have just caned the kid instead of spraying him with water.

When my kids swim in a pool for 30 minutes on a hot day & then get out, they are shivering too. Should I be charged with child abuse? Hmmm... This story doesn't add up. If her child didn't want it, why did she stand back & watch for 20 minutes? Then finally do nothing but turn off the water? She didn't go grab him out of "harm's way"? she watched her child suffer for 20 minutes, then watched him suffer again for another 10? Nope, doesn't add up.

I agree and if it were my child I would have put a stop to it immediatley then seeing the mindset of my husband he would have been on his way with no return. Ya . I'm a hard azz when it comes to child abuse and no one to protect the child. Read between the lines.
