HERMANN, Mo. - A performance by the Hermann Apostle Band will mirror the blend of history, entertainment and information being highlighted during the community’s 175th anniversary celebration.
The concert by the Hermann Apostle Band, which traces its origins to 1882, will take place in the Clara Messmer Amphitheater at 7 p.m. Saturday, the approximate mid-point of the three-day celebration today (Friday) through Sunday. The present incarnation of the 12-member apostle band, coordinated by John Berkemeyer, will perform pieces of the founding members’ original music. The music remained hidden in the archives of the German School Museum until it was uncovered in 2009.
The goal of the anniversary celebration is to increase awareness — for residents and visitors alike — of the city’s German heritage and develop activities and programs to enhance that heritage as Hermann moves toward its bicentennial.
