Missouri ACT scores identical to last year’s

WASHINGTON (AP) — Missouri students performed the same on this year’s ACT college-entrance exam as they did in 2011.

Data released Wednesday for the class of 2012 show Missouri’s composite score unchanged at 21.6 out of a possible 36. Nationally, the average score was 21.1.

The percentage of Missouri graduates earning scores indicating college readiness was highest in English at 73 percent and lowest in science at 33 percent.

Seventy-five percent of Missouri’s 2012 graduates took the exam, compared with 71 percent last year.

Missouri students are doing this poorly, but yet our governor and legislators still refuse to fully fund the schools funding formula? How can this be? Education is the main responsibility according to the Missouri Constitution!

Someone needs to kick some Science teacher rear and get this shameful performance fixed.

English teachers should be ashamed if 73% is the best they can do. No wonder this is such a hick state.

Actually, if you look at the criteria for graduating highschool, it's four years of english, and two of science. Notwithstanding the recent (R) initiative allowing conscientious objection to science principles, including something as base as mainstream thermodynamics. They can probably object too to fundamentals of astronomy, geology, archaeology, paleontology, name it.

And employers object to locating here and/or hiring our citizens because the education level is so low.

I took four years of science in HS. There are room for electives. Then I did went to college, worked for the government, and private sectors both.

Lemme tell ya honestly: I wish I'd stayed dumb and ignorant.

Not that I think our schools are the w o r s t of the w o r s t but I do think we have some major battles on education approaching. Some people might be interested in watching "Waiting for Superman" it is a documentary about the public school systems.

Not really sure why I was flagged as inappropriate but anyway I hope people are not offended by my foul language.

Those composite scores aren't even accurate. Since its a timed test most kids guess at most of the answers anyway. So in reality its probably even lower.
