Green warns against printing ballots pending lawsuit

Lawyers for Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder and the Legislature's Republican leaders have agreed that Secretary of State Robin Carnahan can certify the "health care exchanges" ballot language to county clerks.

But the election officials can't send that language to the printers, yet.

Cole County Circuit Judge Dan Green issued a "Consent Order" Tuesday allowing Carnahan to certify the language that the Republicans want removed from the ballot - as long as the secretary of state adds a "cautionary disclaimer" that says: "The summary statement for (Senate Bill) 464 prepared by the Secretary of State's Office is the subject of litigation pending in the Cole County Circuit Court. Local Election Authorities should not print the ballots until notified that the court approves the summary statement."
