Deadline nears for Mo. candidates to withdraw
Monday, August 20, 2012
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Embattled Missouri U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin faces a tight deadline if he chooses to leave the race, after at least one fellow Republican called on him to step down.
Speculation about Akin’s future is growing, a day after he said women’s bodies are able to prevent pregnancies in “a legitimate rape” situation. Scott Brown, a Republican U.S. senator from Massachusetts, said Monday that Akin should step aside.
Missouri election law allows candidates to withdraw 11 weeks before Election Day. That means the deadline to exit the Nov. 6 election would be Tuesday at 5 p.m. Otherwise, candidates would need a court order to withdraw.
If Akin leaves, the Republican state committee has two weeks to name a replacement.
The replacement must file within 28 days of Akin’s exit.

If Missouri Republicans want any chance at unseating Claire they better get Akin to withdraw. He has no chance of winning now.

A decision now by Todd Akin to remain in the race would guarantee a McCaskle reelection. Mr. Akin demonstrated the height of stupidity not only for the ignorance of his opinion but his own lack of common sense in voicing something so stupid. To remain in the race now will only show that he cares more for his own position and not for what is best for the people of this State.
Quit now Todd for all our good. You can't win and Claire has got to be defeated.

Give me a freakin' break. This guy will stay in the race, because he's too narcicistic to withdraw. He beleives God wants him to be a senator. Must be convenient to use the Almighty's name like a sticker to paper over all the stupid, hurtfull things one does without having to pay a penalty for them. 30 days from now, nobody will be talking about this. he's hurt himself, but let's face it. the nutjobs that were going to vote for this guy will still vote for him, and the folks who have already decided to vote for McCaskill simply have one more reason to do so. This doesn't change the dynamic, it just makes it more expense for Akin since the RNC has dropped their support of him... "Todd who?" Like it or not- another old white guy who is out of touch with mainstream America and wants to go back to the 50's will probably be elected to represent "the people". Hey Todd: women ARE part of your constituency. Aww- who am I kidding- he's only after votes from OTHER rich, old white guys.

He should do the right thing and withdraw. Wouldn't that be something else? the Republican replacement candidate beats McCaskill.
