75 years of 'The Dandy' comics to end in December

LONDON (AP) - Britain's longest-running comic book will go out of print in December but its publisher plans to keep it going on the Internet.

DC Thomson on Thursday confirmed that the special 75th anniversary edition of "The Dandy" in December will be the last of the printed weeklies.

Circulation of the comic, featuring Desperate Dan, Beryl the Peril and Korky the Kat, has fallen below 7,500, far below its peak of 2 million in 1950.

The company is reviewing the future of other publications, including "The Beano."

Ellis Watson, chief executive of DC Thomson's newspaper and magazine publishing operations, said "The Dandy" will live on in an Internet version.

Watson promised, "Dan has certainly not eaten his last cow pie."
