After long summer, excited for football season

Ladies and gentleman, I want to make an announcement — it’s football season!

After more than two grueling months of sweltering heat, and sheer boredom at times, it’s finally time for some pure, unadulterated sports bliss.

I live and die with my St. Louis Cardinals, and Major League Baseball is great, but the 162-game season can drag on and leave me yearning for something more. I’m ready for October baseball already.

The Olympics are certainly inspirational, and even entertaining at times, but I just can’t get too into gymnastics, swimming and lopsided basketball games, much less sports like trampoline, fencing and equestrian. The U.S. women’s soccer team is about the only thing that kept my attention for an extended period.

I need something more. I need football. I need the crunch of the pads, the roar of the crowd, the chatter in the press box.
