100 evacuated from downtown KC apartment building

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A three-alarm fire forced the evacuation of about 100 residents from a downtown Kansas City apartment building.

The Kansas City Star (http://bit.ly/NpXEn9) reports firefighters were called to the building at Ninth and Wyandotte streets around 5:20 a.m. Saturday and contained the fire to the roof.

Fire Department spokesman Floyd Peoples says no injuries were reported and residents were allowed to return to their homes later Saturday morning.

Peoples says in addition to some fire damage the building suffered damage from water that flowed from the roof to the basement.

He says the building has a full sprinkling system and a working alarm system that allowed everyone to be evacuated efficiently.
