Two bicycle races gearing up this weekend

Two bicycle racing events this weekend will be taking to Mid-Missouri roads and have prompted words of caution for motorists.

On Saturday, the 2012 Missouri State Bicycle Championship time trials will be staged on Highway 94 in Callaway County.

On Sunday, Big Shark Bicycle Company will bring the Missouri Championship Criterium Bicycle Races across the river to downtown Jefferson City.

What is wrong with these people. This is a roadway, not a track. It would be different if there was enough pavement on the shoulders to ride there but there is not so vehicles come up behind them and have to wait to pass.

bikes are considered vehicles by law and as such have the same rights to access to roadways. I just got back from Portland a few weeks back where nearly 15% of the population uses bikes as their main form of transportation. It was a beautiful sight to see.
