Nixon, Spence vow to fight Obama regulations
Friday, August 10, 2012
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon and his challenger, Dave Spence, are both touting their commitment to stand up to President Barack Obama’s administration against over-reaching regulations.
Nixon, a Democrat, and Spence, a Republican, spoke Friday to a political action committee of the Missouri Farm Bureau. Their appearance came just days after Spence won a Republican primary for the right to challenge Nixon.
Nixon touted his fight against an Obama administration proposal that would have limited teenagers’ ability to work on farms.
But Spence claimed Nixon’s administration has failed to push back against regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency. Spence said he wants to look at transferring Missouri’s regulatory powers to the Department of Economic Development instead of the Department of Natural Resources. Nixon doubted that would accomplish much.
