Missouri River low-water inspection starts Sunday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Mississippi River Commission is planning a low-water inspection trip in the Missouri River Basin.

The group will hear local residents' concerns on issues ranging from flood control to navigation in a series of meetings. They start Sunday in Bismarck, N.D., and continue Aug. 13 in Fort Pierre, S.D., and Aug. 15 in St. Joseph, Mo. The fourth and last will be Aug. 16 in Washington, Mo.

Three of the commission's seven members are officers of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A fourth is from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The other three are civilians, and two of them are civil engineers.
