Saundra Allen brought with her a few props to feed the imagination of the new teachers she was addressing at Tuesday’s New Teacher Appreciation Banquet to welcome them to the district at the Capitol Plaza Hotel. New teachers from Jefferson City Public Schools, as well as area public and parochial schools, were introduced and given new teacher packets.

A hammer, rope, duct tape, batteries, large clock, telephone and calendar.
One at a time, those items emerged from retired teacher Saundra Allen’s bag as she told new teachers how to get ready for the new school year.
That duct tape, she said during a 13-minute speech at the Jefferson City Rotary Club’s annual new teacher luncheon, “is not what you think.”
