People plead case for JCTV
Tuesday, August 7, 2012
Several people sought to plead the case for JCTV on Monday, hoping to prevent cuts or elimination of the station’s budget in the next fiscal year.
Four people spoke before the City Council in favor of JCTV, which is at risk of losing its $165,000 budget for the next fiscal year.

Let it go, no one watches public access. No one.

Keep it, many people watch city hall meetings. It is a good investment in open government.

It would be more cost effective to stream the meetings onto the internet. Rolla does that I believe.

City council meetings are streamed online here; however, not everyone has internet at home.

Thanks for the info, Rod. I don't live in JC and did not know that.

Let Linn State have the TV station! They would do a very good job with it, and it would make money. Not like very low quality and expectations at Lincoln.

Open missions policy = very low quality and expectations If your school has no standards well then....there are no standards. Penn State had standards once upon a time until.......Is bringing child molestation into a conversation about Penn State a cheap shot? Lincoln is not that great of a school and apparently they do not want to fund this station either.

They have to teach READING to college students. Enuff said.

Actually Lifer they don't teach reading in college, you'd better know how to read if you want to go to any college I've ever heard of. Trolling requires a bait that makes some sense . . . 'nuff said?

I'm not affiliated with Lincoln in any way but I do occasionally do a show on JCTV and I'd hate to see it scr_pped. YOU may not watch public access but there are those that do.
Really?? I can't say SCR_PPED? You guys really need to look for a better filter.

The station is under valued. You guys are looking at what it cost while you should be looking at the overall picture. That station, with a micro budget of $165,000, is providing not only local access but great training and experience that volunteers can go on to use at paying jobs. What other training program do you see that could pull that off for such a small budget?

Viktor, good point. We use students to run the cameras for my show - many of whom have never been behind one before. I've brought my 13 year old with me to tapings and he's shown more interest in what goes on behind the scenes now. Sure, we've sat around and wished we were in a state of the art facility, but we have fun while giving something to the community.

Like any enterprise if can't self sustain it should wither away. Same can be said for any public media enterprise (PBS, NPR). This is what happens when one becomes dependent on gov't promises that are eventually broken because they've ran out of other peoples money. Could other programs be shut down to save money? Sure. Until then, nice knowing you JCTV.
