Jefferson City is seeking voter approval Tuesday of an annexation that would include a new area to the city’s 4th Ward.

The Meadows by the Club annexation proposal includes an area of 158.2 acres in the Apache Flats area, including 27 housing units and two hotels. Included in the area are the Hampton Inn, Comfort Suites, J.C. Mattress Factory, a quarry, a turtle farm and the Meadows by the Club subdivision.

If the proposal succeeds, the area would join the city’s 4th Ward. If the issue doesn’t pass with a simple majority in both the city limits and the proposed annexed area, a second election would be held, most likely in November. The two votes combined would need a two-thirds majority to pass.

City is broke, they need the occupancy tax from the hotels out of city limits and needs the sales tax.....How about that nice rise in sales tax once JC takes it

Another area of Cole County will be turned over to the pathetically incompentent JCPD and more crime will be around. How about the city cut their salaries because 1) Mayor has NOT once found a successful inexpensive way to promote JC and the Convention and Visitors Bureau should only have ONE person working in it (NOT A TOURIST TOWN) 2) Crime rate in JC is UP and now above the state average. 3) City promotes DUI as there is nothing in place for people to get safe rides home from "Drunken Downtown Thursdays"....JC is going to hell in a handbasket fast......In my opinion people...VOTE NO ON THIS......JEFFERSON CITY CANT EVEN KEEP UP WITH THE AREA IT HAS NOW, DON'T LET IT DESTROY WHAT ISN'T YET....... Glad my parents are dead because if they weren't and this passed, I would be helping them move....Many people moved to the west side to avoid being in Jefferson City and its lame life!

So if it doesn't pass the first time, there will be a second vote. Then what, a third? Fourth? As many as it takes to finally pass? Why the illusion of giving us a say, when they will eventually take it anyway?

If you are not part of the JC old boys Club (i.e. JC old $$$) U don't have a chance in hell to get elected.

Just in time for the SEC overflow. I will vote no. On a side note, I wonder how many young professionals we'll pick up if this strong arm tactic works.

Why did those hotels build where they did? City tax. They better hope for a lot of softball tournaments to make up for their lost competitive advantage

Firstly, I do not agree that JC should expand toward those areas. In my humble opinion. Secondly, what I don't understand is that everyone always wants to blame the police and how disfunctional they are. Yet I don't see anyone doing anything to make JC more safe or do anything about the incompetance they speak so much about. If you want the police to run things like you want them to... run for Sheriff/Chief of Police. Run for Mayor, become a judge, become an attorney. Instead people want to sit behind their keyboard and complain. DO SOMETHING!! If it bothers you that much that you have to tell JC and the news tribune how awful it is... Do something about it. Those that can't do are critical of thoes that are doing something or they are tax collectors.

Why the cherry picking?Take newer high income businesses with a small voting block and a small [in comparison to the city] upscale subdivision and pass on the mobile home parks and much older businesses near them.Ask the residents and businesses on the east end how much better their services are almost 10 years after annexation.Divide and conquer seems to be the preferred method. Why grab more until existing residents have the quality of service they deserve in a CAPITAL city.

Need some roundabouts out there, too.

If this forced annexation goes through, I hope it helps the city ra:ise enough money to water all the trees that are quickly dieing over at Memorial and McKay parks. Don't they know that the newly-planted trees need to be watered fr;equently their first few years until their roots become more developed? Many trees are dieing and we have all these city employees cruising High Street all day in their brand new trucks.

Love me some "Forced Annexation" that the city people and proposed annex people VOTE on. Wonder if Obama will be forced back into presidency.
