Ameren seeks coal ash landfill in Jefferson County

FESTUS, Mo. (AP) - The St. Louis-based utility company Ameren Missouri is seeking to place a coal ash landfill at its Rush Island power plant in Jefferson County.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold a public meeting Tuesday at Festus City Hall to discuss the permitting process. Ameren has obtained preliminary approval for a geological investigation for a landfill at the plant.

Ameren is already seeking a coal ash landfill next to its Labadie plant in nearby Franklin County, though some residents of that area opposed to building it in the Missouri River floodway.
