Hottest-ever July in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (AP) - It's no surprise, but it is official: St. Louis just endured the hottest July in recorded history.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/NJz43U ) reports that the average daily temperature for July was 88.1 degrees, the highest ever based on data from the National Weather Service's St. Louis-area office. The previous high was 87.4 degrees in July 1901. The daily average accounts for the morning low and the afternoon high temperatures.

The Weather Service says St. Louis also recorded the most days ever in a month - eight - with high readings of 105 degrees or higher. The region also had temperatures of at least 90 degrees for 28 of the 31 days in July, tied with 1901 and 1936 for the most ever.
