Holts Summit resident catches armed suspect

Holds man at gunpoint until police arrive

Holts Summit police report they arrested an armed suspect on Saturday evening after he broke into a home where a resident held him at gunpoint.

An off-duty police officer was driving his personal car northbound on Summit Drive around 6:40 p.m. when a vehicle traveling westbound on Simon Boulevard ran a red light, nearly striking the officer's car. While alerting other officers, the off-duty policeman followed the suspect vehicle as it sped northbound and then pulled into a mobile home park in the 300 block of North Summit Drive.

Moments later, the off-duty officer and another officer made contact with the driver, who reportedly gave them a false name. Officers say the driver pushed away and fled on foot as they were trying to handcuff him. During the foot chase, he allegedly tried to pull out a handgun and then escaped into nearby woods.

While searching for the driver, police received a 911 call from a resident reporting he was holding a man at gunpoint who had just broken into his home. Officers discovered the man being held was indeed the driver who had fled.

The driver, whose name has not been released pending formal charges, is being held in the Callaway County Jail in Fulton.
