Mo. Senate panel considers CPR training in schools

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri Senate committee is considering legislation that would make CPR training a requirement for graduating from high schools.

The bill has already passed the House and would take effect starting in the fall of 2014 if it becomes law. Proponents say it could save lives by increasing the number of people who can perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The training would be based on national guidelines for emergency cardiovascular care and include hands-on practice and testing. First responders could provide the training under agreements with individual schools, but the legislation doesn’t require that instructors be specially certified.

CPR training is HB1337

Are you kidding me. Don't those kids have enough requirements? They are trying to remove school nurses....who would teach the course? They have to be a certified instructor. The CPR requirements are just chest compressions now. Will they require a health class again? So art and music are out for the developement of health classes. These legislators can't think of anything to pass for job security. Why don't we just remove some of the stupid laws from the books. But then you will have to read all the laws first.....

Red Cross already teaches CPR classes. You don't need a one hour all year round course to learn CPR.

Surely they are not going to teach that it is OK for a man to give another man CPR? That is sick! What if it teaches kids to become homosexual?

How about the jobs bills? When is the legislature going to work in their highest priority?

Everyone loves a Mike Kehoe deal LOL! First lets double tax everyone to drive down the highway, now it's lets make kids learn CPR. Why in the world do we elect these bafoons?

If someone wants to learn CPR they can do it through the Red Cross, they can volunteer with a local fire department. It should NOT be a requirement to graduate. Students already have enough requirements. It's bad enough they have students taking classes like "lifetime sports" to meet a PE requirement. I wish they'd go back to exercises, volleyball, and other sports instead of board games and scooters. Didn't vote for Kehoe, he's more of a Liberal wanting to make decisions for us.
