Blame it on the grandchildren?

Lincoln University President Carolyn Mahoney said Tuesday she’ll be retiring on Aug. 15.

“This decision is all about family, and it’s time for me to turn my attention to my family,” Mahoney said during an interview.

About three weeks ago, one of Mahoney’s two daughters living in California had her second baby, giving Mahoney three grandchildren — one in one daughter’s family and two in the other.

“There’s a big difference between one and two (children in the home), so they could use some support from Grandma,” she explained. “Then I have another daughter — and she and her family in July will be moving to Nairobi, where she will be setting up the residency program at (a) university.

“So, I will need time to go to Africa for extended periods, should I so desire.”

The departure of Mahoney, 65, will come 7 1/2 years after her arrival in February 2005 as LU’s 18th (and first woman) president.

Good riddens she was a major part of the LU hug a thug mentality and the reason the area around LU is the slums.

Dan Smith the trolling baafune. You sure like saying hug a thug there pops. Did you have a bad date with one of the tough guys at Lincoln? Have you never seen slum housing around a campus before? Maybe you flunked a black history class . . .

Feel free to post critiques of public entities, policies and officials' job performance, but please try to keep it constructive.
